Almost Live From Daytona Beach!

We spent the weekend at The World's Most Famous Beach--Daytona Beach!
The first image is the historic Daytona Beach Pier, which has been washed out and rebuilt more than once. In its heyday, the building has housed a ballroom and a casino. The skylift is absolutely terrifying--it thrusts you out over the pier, high and away from any feeling of safety; I felt as though I would slip out of the seat and plummet into the ocean. I highly recommend this ride!

The sixteenth floor oceanview room was the best place to see everything: people, dolphins, the boardwalk;I'll never get over the mystery and the endlessness of the ocean, especially in the evening. The night was especially dark because a squall settled over the beach, but that didn't stop some partygoers, who stopped at the bandshell to catch some local acts.

The boardwalk never sleeps. People stroll beachside, stopping at vendors for ice cream and trinkets. I saw a man get down on one knee in front of a woman. She squealed, hugged him, and then whipped out her cell phone.

Here's the pier at night. .....................................................................

Saturday night fireworks! I like the triplets, but my favorite photo is the grand finale below because you can see people running away from the water!

Daytona Beach--it was wonderful.

So you feel like you're going to die and you highly recommend it? Crazy, crazy.

Great firworks pics.

Yep, everytime someone recommends a ride they thought they might die on, I'm the first in line...for a different ride! grin...

Great pics...glad you had fun!

Thanks, Christy and Brenda! It was great.

Ha! Charles--yes, the terror is exhilarating! By the time the skylift gets near the end of the pier, you realize you are over huge swells. The lift suddenly seems old and rickety; the seat is slippery. I will become chum.

Great pictures!

I have family in Tampa, and I've been there a zillion times. But I've never been to Daytona Beach, go figure. :) At least now I know what it looks like. :)

The skylift looks fun! I'd probably die, though. I never had a fear of heights as a kid, but I sure get weak in the knees now!

Lovely pictures, and another reason to visit America.

Danette, I love Daytona Beach! My hubby's family has a house in Port Orange nearby, and we go there every October. The Pier is our favorite place too. Great pics!

I've been through Daytona Beach, but only fleetingly, ages ago. I used to live in Miami Beach, though, and your pictures remind me of it.

That romantic proposal you witnessed cracked me up -- that the woman proposed to could not just sigh and savor it but had to whip out her cell phone and preserve it for her friends to relish. Ah, they don't make romance like they used to!

Ooh! This is wonderful. Love the photographs. I've half a mind to hop a plane now and get down to Daytona Beach.
